Our Mission
At Laniakea Montessori School, our mission is to cultivate independent thinkers, visionaries, compassionate citizens, and confident learners through authentic Montessori education grounded in scientific research on child development and learning.
Guided by the principles first articulated by Dr. Maria Montessori, our educators combine careful observation, thoughtful mentorship, and prepared learning environments to support our students’ intellectual, social, and emotional growth. We follow the growing body of scientific research that affirms the effectiveness of Montessori education while continuing to reflect on and contribute to research within the Montessori community.
Through purposeful work, meaningful relationships, and a culture of curiosity, we prepare students to think critically, act responsibly, and engage thoughtfully with the world around them.
Our Philosophy (Research + Practice)
The Montessori approach is rooted in scientific observation of children and continues to be supported by contemporary research in developmental psychology and education. At Laniakea Montessori School, we believe that children and adolescents learn best when they are active participants in their learning, working within environments carefully designed to support independence, concentration, and exploration.
Our mixed-age classrooms foster collaboration, leadership, and respect for individual developmental trajectories. Educators serve as guides who observe closely, respond to each child’s needs, and create conditions that support the development of executive function, self-regulation, and deep understanding.
As a professional learning community, our educators remain engaged with current educational research and reflective practice. In doing so, we draw from and contribute to the ongoing body of scientific research that continues to advance Montessori education.
