Trey Asner

Mr. Trey is a humanities educator and historic preservationist with a passion for connecting students to the stories and structures that shape our communities. Originally from St. Augustine, Florida, he developed an early fascination with historic architecture and the cultural histories embedded within it.

His graduate research explored shell-based construction in early St. Augustine, examining how local materials and cultural influences shaped the region’s historic architecture. In 2022, he helped identify and preserve the Canright House, a site connected to the Civil Rights Movement, working alongside local officials and preservation advocates to ensure its protection.

In addition to his work in the classroom, he serves on the Gainesville Historic Preservation Board and is Chair of the Alachua County Historical Commission. Through his teaching, he encourages students to explore history as a living narrative that informs the present and shapes the future.
